What a month!

What a month! Time has flown by with Lucy here! Lucy Katherine Shafer was born on February 7, 2009 at 12:43am. I went in on the 5th for a scheduled induction and after a night with the cervadil, there was no change at all. The doctors decided to leave the cervadil in for the full 9 hours and at 7:30am, my contractions started....and lasted all day. The doctors broke my water at about 3pm (should have gotten the epidural first!) and after a failed epidural, IV pain meds, and a spinal block, I was only 4 centimeters/90% effaced at midnight. Lucy was not coming down the birth canal and her heartrate was slowing. We all discussed it and decided that she needed to get outta there now! I went in for a c-section and out she came at 12:43am! She was 6 pounds even, 19 inches long, and scored a 9 and a 10 on the apgar scale.

We were discharged from the hospital on the following tuesday and it's been a blur of changings, late-night feedings, spit up, visitors, trips to the dr and ER (she had a slight cold, no biggie). She's now one month and 7 pounds 2 oz, still tiny for her age, but in perfect health other than left over congestion from the cold she had last week.
I'm smitten :)

waiting...

Waiting is the hardest part of all. Today has been especially trying. I have more aches and pains today than other days which I can only attribute to her moving downwards. She has been super active all day, which makes me smile, and double over in pain :) and the snoring...oh man. I feel so bad for Rob, he says he gets enough sleep, but I doubt it. I even wake myself up with my snorning!! Hopefully that goes away when Lucy is here.

anyway, I had my NST on thursday, all is well with Lucy despite her low fluid levels. Monday I have another NST, tuesday I have an ultrasound, thursday another NST and THE appointment when I find out when we get to meet our baby girl!

WOW!

ok, this will be sparse and poorly-worded because I am that excited!!!!

My BP was a little high, it's been up and down for weeks now. I have to go in twice a week for Non-Stress Tests and if I have not gone into labor by my next dr's appt on the 5th, she is going to schedule me to be induced!!!!! Lucy is on her way!!!

2.5 weeks to go!

ahhh the final countdown, and the final stretch to get things done! I still need to do one more load of her laundry, pack my hospital bag, pack lucy's bag, and I'm done! The anticipation is absolutely killing me. My next appointment is tomorrow morning so hopefully there's more progress going on "down there". If I'm still only a half-centimeter dialated I think I will cry.

Six months ago I never thought that this day would come! It seemed so far away and now with only two and a half weeks to go, I can't believe it's this close! Life will change forever, but it will be worth it :)

35 bucks for a question????

I hate Michigan Ob/GYN. Last night I was having severe pain in the back, belly, and hips and I had no idea what was going on. I decided to call the dr and ask if this was serious or just a part of pregnancy. Little did I know, when it's off-hours/weekend if it is not deemed an emergency by the on-call Dr, they charge you 35 bucks! This is not right. I'm a first-timer! I have no idea what is considered "normal" and not-normal. I plan on telling my Dr that this practice is down-right rude! How am I supposed to know what is an emergency and what isn't? There was no way I was dragging my butt to the ER at 10pm at night when Rob had to get up at 5am. All I wanted to know was if I was ok or not. And yeah, 35 bucks isn't a lot of money, but for us, it is. We are so flat broke that 35 dollars means food on the table or the heat turned on in the apartment.

Short post

Lucy is currently 5lbs 15oz and on the small-side but thats ok :) The tech seems to think that she will only be about 7lbs at birth! Tiny little peanut!! I'm now 37 weeks pregnant and considered full-term so I guess I could go into labor at anytime, but I have a feeling that she'll hang out in there until the last possible second!

Appointment Update

I had my appointment today, it went pretty well. I'm a half-centimeter dialated...not a whole lot, but progress none the less! I go back tomorrow for an ultrasound to check her position because the Dr couldn't tell if she was head down or not. Also, she wants to check her weight because my belly isn't really that big, but it could be that she's just tiny, or it could be the way I'm carrying her, or the way she's positioned. We'll see!

Update 2 days in a row!

wow! I'm getting pretty decent at this! Let's see if I can keep it up!

I made dinner tonight for Rob, Liz, and myself and I gotta say, I'm getting better at this whole cooking thing. My timing still isn't perfect but it was edible at least!

Appointment tomorrow! Hopefully we'll get some good news like she's completely dropped and head-down. Time for a shower and pj's :) Sorry this is so short, but there's not much to report today.

Cranky Prego

I'm sorry that it's been so long since I've posted!! Good Lord! ok, update time...

I'm 36 weeks and 3 days prego and READY TO BE DONE!!! ugh, I'm really hoping this chicky comes early because I am at the end of my rope! Heartburn, nausea returned (fabulous), backaches, "playdough" cankles (actually, that one is kinda fun.), hip pain that feels like arthritis, the lovely mood swings that Rob absolutely loves, and the list goes on...whoever said that being pregnant is wonderful was obviously a man. Granted, I love feeling her move and wiggle around in there, but right now I'd rather have her wiggling in my arms. At least I'd be able to breathe! For those of you who don't know what "playdough cankles" are, let me explain. Remember the temperpedic material that they make beds out of? yeah, that pretty much explains it, push on it and it indents on my ankles. It's a good way to pass the time.

This winter has been brutal! Thankfully I don't have to drive in the snow unless I want to, but the snow makes for a very cranky woman with cabin fever! Here's a run-down of my days:

between 8am-9am I'm awake, sort of. I stumble into the bathroom to pee (because the 5 times I got up during the night weren't enough), stumble out of the bathroom to the kitchen, make my half-caf coffee (man I miss full-blown caffeine) all the while trying not to bash my ginormous belly on the lazy-boy or the kitchen counter, turn on the tube, watch the Today show and drink my 2 cups, which equals one full-blown caffeinated cup. Most days I'm in my pj's all day, usually the only reason I shower everyday is to simply get warm, but it's right back into pj's. Some days I'll clean, some days I'll do laundry. Usually it's sitting on the couch all day meandering through facebook WAY too many times and muttering to myself that there is nothing on TV. And that's my day...fabulous right?

Anyway, I have my next appointment on tuesday at 9:15 in the freaking AM, hopefully she'll have some good news for me, like I'm already dialated and effaced and ready to push...hey, a girl can dream right?
